Florida is known for a lot of things, but probably atop that list are its beaches. From fine, white sand and crystal clear waters on the west coast to the more expansive, wildlife rich, wavy beaches on the east, no two beaches are alike. I’ve put together a list of some of my most favorite beaches that I think you should visit this summer. Some are slower-paced and more secluded, and some are jam-packed with excitement and energy. There’s a beach here for everyone!
1) Amelia Island
I can’t talk about beaches you must visit in Florida without starting with Amelia Island. Situated on the northeastern coast of Florida, Amelia Island is a small community that makes you feel right at home when you visit. The beaches here have more of a secluded and natural feel than most of the other east coast beaches further south. If you like wildlife, there is also a marsh on the west side of the island. You can rent kayaks or join eco tours to explore the area. Most of the small downtown is also walkable. This is the perfect vacation spot if you’re looking for a quiet trip to slow down and enjoy life.
2) St. George Island
I’m hesitant to even include St. George on my list because I want to keep it to myself! Growing up in the Panhandle of Florida, St. George Island has always been my go-to beach. Over the last few years, the secret of its beauty has become more widespread, but that hasn’t taken away any of its charm. St. George Island is a laid back, mostly-undeveloped island with beautiful beaches full of wildlife. Vacation rentals and a handful of shops make up the middle of the island, and beaches cover the rest. If you want some time away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, this is your place! The vacation rentals on the island are especially great to bring a large group of people and enjoy each others company for a few days.
3) Siesta Key
Just outside of Sarasota, the 8-mile long island of Siesta Key sits. With beautiful quartz-sand and crystal clear waters, you can’t beat the beauty of this beach. Siesta Key is busier than Amelia Island and St. George Island, but it doesn’t feel crowded or like a tourist trap. There’s plenty of beach to go around here, and when you get tired from a day at the beach, there is plenty of shopping and dining to keep you occupied. There are plenty of watersports and activities spread out around the island for the more adventurous traveler, too.
4) Clearwater Beach
Named for its crystal-clear waters, Clearwater is next on the list. Although it is still considered a laid-back beach, there’s still plenty to do here. The northern part of the beach is usually far less crowded in the busy season, so if you’re looking to avoid crowds, I’d recommend planting your beach chair here. The town of Clearwater has some interesting things to do as well, including an aquarium that would be a great break from the hot summer sun. Clearwater would be a great vacation destination for families or friends.
5) Pensacola Beach
I’m not sure why Pensacola Beach isn’t mentioned more often when people talk about the best beaches in Florida. It’s further north than a lot of the beaches in Florida, but weather-wise that makes it even more perfect during summer. Pensacola Beach is large! There’s plenty of room for everyone! On top of that, there is an abundance of various tours, charters, and rentals to keep you occupied. There’s a really nice pier as well. If you’re looking for a beach vacation with a variety of things to do after you’ve sunbathed all day, Pensacola is a fantastic option. It’s great for families, too!
6) Destin
You can’t make a list about the best beaches in Florida without Destin! Along Florida’s Emerald Coast, Destin has some of the most beautiful beaches I’ve ever seen. In the middle of summer, you can spend hours out in the water just bobbing around. The sand is chalky white. There are plenty of hotels and condos you can choose from, and there’s no shortage of good food options. Sometimes considered Panama City’s less troublesome younger sibling, Destin is still a hub for tourism. I’d still avoid here during Spring Break if that’s not your crowd, but over the summer it’s great!
7) Key Largo
The Florida Keys are something special. I truly believe everybody should visit them at least once in their life. Key Largo is a unique place. It is known just as much for its divable reefs as its pristine beaches. Less busy and touristy than Key West, Key Largo is a great place to relax and explore at your own pace. There are so many nature-related activities to do here. You will never be bored! Snorkling, scuba diving, Ecotouring, kayaking– you name it! Key Largo is a fantastic beach vacation for every kind of traveler– families, solo, couples, or friends.
8) South Beach
If party is what you’re looking for, party is what you’ll get! South Beach in Miami is a hotspot for vibrancy and fun. There’s a reason South Beach has become so popular. The beach here is beautiful, and there’s always something going on. If you want to enjoy the beach, soak up some sun, and then dance the night away, there’s nowhere better. This is the perfect vacation for friends, couples, and the free spirited.
There you have it! Any of these beaches will make a great vacation for you this summer. Whether you’re looking for a quick beach trip or planning a long break away from everyday life, you can trust any of these beaches to make you trip special. Do you have any beaches across Florida you think should be on this list? Let me know!
